Visa for IT specialist (not Blue Card)

If you have special knowledge of IT and do not qualify for a Blue Card (EU) or Employment Visa (qualified professionals) you can apply for a IT specialist visa to take up employment in Germany.

Applicants who are in possession of a pre-approval for employment from the German Aliens Authority, can request a special appointment at the German Embassy (E-Mail to the Embassy Dar Es Salaam) . A copy of the pre-approval has to be submitted upon request.

To apply for a Visa for IT specialists you will need:

  • proof of at least three years of professional experience in the IT field acquired in the last seven years,
  • a contract of employment in the field of information and communications technology,
  • a minimum annual gross salary of EUR 54.360,-(Beginning of 2024)/EUR 40.770,- (as of March 1st 2024)
  • German language skills, at least level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference

Processing time:

Due to the regular need for approval from the authorities in Germany, you should generally allow three months for your visa application to be processed (calculated from the time you submit the complete application documents to the diplomatic mission abroad). Please do not request a status update – these will not be answered but ignored.
