The Federal Foreign Office will use your personal data when processing your application. Personal data means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person. We would like to provide the following information regarding our data processing in order to comply with our obligation under Article 13 of the GDPR:

4. Your personal data will be passed on to the Federal Office of Administration/the

competent register office for further processing of your application relating to

citizenship/name/civil status. The mission abroad will process your data to ascertain the

identity of the applicant, check that your application is complete, certify copies and

authenticate your signature on the application form. The legal basis for the processing is

section 31 of the Nationality Act and sections 2, 8 and 10 of the Consular Law.

5. Your personal data will be stored for a maximum of five years in accordance with the

instructions for the records section of the missions abroad; once your application has

been approved, your data will immediately be destroyed.


6. As a data subject you have the following rights:

- Right of access (Article 15 GDPR)

- Right to rectification (Article 16 GDPR)

- Right to erasure (Article 17 GDPR)

- Right to restriction of processing (Article 18 GDPR)

- Right to data portability (Article 20 GDPR)

- Right to object to processing (Article 21 GDPR).

7. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority about the processing

of your personal data. The supervisory authority responsible for the Federal Foreign
